Tenesol’s expertise
R&D, the driving force of innovation
Established more than 26 years ago, Tenesol has grown as a result of conceiving original solutions for situations where solar energy was the only possible solution.
Today, working with its partners and on behalf of its customers, the company continues to innovate continuously in order to invent systems that help deal with the rise in energy costs, in particular electricity costs.
Tenesol’s research and development center, based in Lyon, has gathered together an experienced team to work on fundamental and applied research. Tenesol’s products and systems undergo rigorous testing here.
The R&D teams are organized around two main goals :
- Advance Tenesol’s technologies, by working in continuous collaboration with organizations and research laboratories
- Coordinate a continuous improvement strategy for Tenesol products in order to optimize costs, performance, and the life span of cells and modules. In this respect, they benefit from the feedback gained from operating more than 500 Tenesol solar farms.
In terms of fundamental research, Tenesol is particularly involved in the development of "thin film" cell photovoltaic technology, which is an important prospect for certain types of projects.

- Innovative solutions
Tenesol’s growth strategy is in line with the French strategy of having solar systems integrated into the structure of a building. Tenesol has therefore joined forces with highly regarded professionals in order to offer innovative solutions that address specific issues.
The following are some examples of the latest innovations offered by Tenesol and its partners :
- With SMAC: Photovoltaic solutions for terrace roofs and facades
Patented structure-integrated solution for terrace roofs and facades, ensuring water-tightness and high performance. - With Eternit: Photovoltaic solutions integrated into fiber-cement
Unique integrated photovoltaic solution in standard fiber-cement, in accordance with building functionality. - With Solar Composite: Stand-alone photovoltaic roofing solutions
Attractive and robust solution, ensuring both water-tightness and electricity generation for new or existing buildings. 100% recyclable. - With Dani Alu: Photovoltaic solutions with fitted guard rail
All-in-one structure used to secure a building while generating electricity - With Garden&Sun: Photovoltaic solutions based on green walls
A unique concept for a quality-driven solution to architectural constraints: electricity generation + excellent thermal insulation with sound insulation of building.

- ENERGRID DATA: Data recording device,
- GRIDSOFT: Operations software,
- QUALISUN: Website for monitoring and operating report.
Committed to sustainable energy
A pioneer in the photovoltaic sector, now growing rapidly but still motivated by the numerous technological, economic and regulatory issues yet to be resolved in the domain, Tenesol intends to remain at the forefront of its sector.
As a global operator in the solar energy sector, Tenesol actively campaigns alongside its national trade union, the SER (renewable energies union - syndicat des énergies renouvelables), for a mix of energies with the emphasis on renewable energies.
Furthermore, in France, for example, Tenesol has just joined the economic interest group "Enjeu Énergie Positive". Created on the initiative of Bouygues Immobilier, the aim of this group is to reduce the energy consumption of future office buildings in the operations phase, contribute to increasing their production capacity of renewable energies, and optimize the carbon footprint of the life cycle of a building. The building sector weighs heavily in France’s energy bill. It represents 21% of CO2 emissions and almost 43% of the country’s total energy consumption. Tenesol wants to be involved earlier in the cycle, starting from the design of the office buildings, so that it can offer the best possible eco-efficient solutions.
Tenesol is a member of PV Cycle and strives to optimize the carbon footprint of its photovoltaic solutions. From the manufacture of cells and panels through to the installation, transport of equipment and staff, dismantling, recycling and reprocessing of equipment, the company actively aims to develop win-win life cycles for its solutions.
These commitments which are in line with European strategy, since the European Union has set itself the goal of having 12% of its primary energy production derived from renewable sources by 2010.
enesol is striving to make the energy generated by its systems even more efficient and competitive. By continuously adapting its range of products and services, Tenesol aims to offer everyone the opportunity to choose solar energy under optimal conditions in a way that is as simple and quality-driven as possible.
Although, in a number of countries, the sector may still benefit from an incentive support system in order to help structure the market and promote innovation, it must not, however, get drawn into an opportunistic way of thinking. It is by rapidly examining its true future challenges that the sector will occupy a leading position in the new mix of energies in the decades to come, and this is exactly where Tenesol intends to make its contribution.
